Loperfido, a seventh-round pick in 2021 from Duke, was the team's Minor League Player of the Year last season after hitting .278 with 79 runs, 27 doubles, three triples, 25 home runs, 78 RBIs, 65 walks and 27 stolen bases in 124 games between High-A Asheville, Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Sugar Land. He's in his first big league camp.
Q: What was it like hearing you got the big league invite?
A: "It was exciting. Coming into the year, I was proud of last year and a lot things I continued to work on in the offseason. Excited to be here, and it's good to just be around the guys and try and be a sponge and soak everything up you can while we're here and make the most of an opportunity."
Q: What did you work on this offseason?
A: "I think just continuing to stabilize the lower half of my swing. I felt like towards the end of the season last year I was kind of out of my legs. Mechanically, I saw some things the last handful of weeks when I was in Sugar Land I wanted to clean up. Really just continue to refine everything. Really wasn't a big change. Just tighten everything back up."
Q: What's the key to playing so many positions?
A: "I think just embrace it. It's a cool experience to play, I think, five total in my time here. … When you show up, it could be a different spot in the lineup card and field, so it's exciting. Just treat it as that."
Q: What's your favorite position?
A: "I love center. Big football fan, big Eagles fan. I like feeling like a safety out there running around and catching the ball."
Q: So you're a Philadelphia sports fan? Who did you pull for in the 2022 World Series?
A: "Astros, obviously. I was at Game 5 when Chas [McCormick] made that catch. It was a pretty electric atmosphere. It made me even that much more excited to be out there one day."
