This isn't his actual proposal. We went to my hometown for the weekend. I knew this was the weekend he was going to ask my dad for permission.
My dad has a HUGE Zippo lighter collection, and the last time we were in town, he nicknamed Tony "nozip" because Tony didn't bring him a lighter. So before we went this time, I encouraged Tony to do so, to get on Dad's good side - however, Tony led me to believe he had not done so the morning of our journey over to his house. I was a little upset and expressed this with him. While at breakfast, Tony pulls out a Zippo Box and opened it. Inside the box was the Zippo for my dad with "May I have your permission?" engraved on it. I was so suprised at his creativity and ability to keep it a secret, I started crying, overjoyed with emotion.
Later that night, we attended my cousin's wedding and on the way home we stopped by our family owned bar, because my Uncle was in town, and my parents were there visiting with him. Besides, I wanted Tony to see The Place, since he'd not yet been there. Tony had a beer, and I said hello to everyone. Once he finished his drink, I was ready to get out of the cigarette smoke (BLECK!!) Well, before I could make an escape, my mom had convinced Tony to have one more beer and we would all go home at the same time. I was like okay, finish that and let's go, the smoke was giving me a headache. He chokes his drink down pretty quick and he and my mom walk over to the Karaoke mic. At this point, I know he isn't up there to sing, so my face automatically goes in "cheesey" mode. The speech goes as follows:
"Hi I'm Tony, a Hoosier, from Indiana. I've been seeing Holly Hardin for a while now, and I just got permission to do this this morning.
Holly, I've been looking for you my whole life, and I'm not going to let you go.
Holly, I love you. (Drops to one knee) Will you marry me?"
