THE BIGGEST TRADES OF DEADLINE DAY SO FAR There's been plenty of trade action already today. Here are the biggest moves so far:   Phillies get Luis Arraez from Giants    The Phils were expected to make moves at the Deadline, and their first big one of the day was trading for baseball's best contact hitter in Arraez, a three-time batting champion who's again leading the National League with a .324 average. The return for San Francisco includes right-hander Ramon Marquez, who slots in as the Giants' new No. 7 prospect.   Full Arraez trade breakdown >>   Blue Jays get José Soriano from Angels    In a surprise move after trading away ace Kevin Gausman last night, the Jays added a potential frontline starter in Soriano, who's under team control through 2028. But Toronto had to send star shortstop prospect Arjun Nimmala to the Angels to get him.    Full Soriano trade breakdown >>    Mariners get Taylor Ward from Orioles    With the AL West race -- and AL playoff race in general -- still wide open, the Mariners went into the Trade Deadline as buyers, and a right-handed bat was one of their biggest needs. Ward, who has completely revamped his approach from an all-or-nothing home run hitter to an on-base threat who leads the AL with 87 walks, will help.   Full Ward trade breakdown >>   Guardians get Jo Adell from Angels    Cleveland, which is hanging onto the third AL Wild Card spot, got a power bat for its lineup in Adell, who has 16 home runs this season after hitting a career-high 37 in 2025. These were the top five blockbusters:   Dodgers get Tarik Skubal from Tigers    The Dodgers landed the big fish of this year's trade market, sending outfielder Zyhir Hope (MLB Pipeline's No. 25 overall prospect), right-hander River Ryan (No. 68 overall) and right-hander Brady Smith (the Tigers' new No. 14) to Detroit for the back-to-back Cy Young winner.    Full Skubal trade breakdown >>   White Sox get Luis Castillo from Mariners   The upstart Sox are preparing for their playoff push, and Step 1 for the AL Central leaders was adding a proven veteran to their rotation in the three-time All-Star Castillo.   Full Castillo trade breakdown >>   Rays get Freddy Peralta from Mets   The American League East leaders didn't get Skubal, but they did bolster their rotation in the wake of Shane McClanahan's injury by acquiring the two-time All-Star starter from the Mets for a trio of prospects.    Full Peralta trade breakdown >>   Cubs get Kevin Gausman from Blue Jays   The Cubs were in dire need of starting pitching depth, and they got it in Gausman, a two-time All-Star who was a frontline starter for the Jays on their AL pennant run last year and should be a valuable arm for Chicago in the 2026 playoff race.   Full Gausman trade breakdown >>   Yankees get Luis García Jr. from Nationals   In search of offense with Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Cody Bellinger all out, the Yanks lengthened their lineup by adding the lefty slugger García, who has 23 home runs this season and was leading the NL with a .560 slugging percentage at the time of the deal.   Full García Jr. trade breakdown >>  AROUND THE LEAGUE Here's the non-trade-related news and notes from around the Majors.    • MLB's monthly award winners for July were announced today. You'll never guess who won AL Player of the Month.    • Yordan Alvarez (see above) is hearing the MVP chants for the red-hot Astros. Houston is on a six-game winning streak and has surged to the top of the AL West behind the star slugger, who continues to lead the AL in all three Triple Crown categories with a .330 batting average, 35 home runs and 84 RBIs.   • Speaking of red-hot ... the Red Sox swept the Dodgers for the first time since 2010 over the weekend. After taking down the World Series champs, the Sox have won 15 of their last 16 games on the road.   • Tigers top prospect Max Clark had a whirlwind of a first weekend in the big leagues. The 21-year-old had three hits in his MLB debut on Friday and then slugged his first career home run on Saturday.
