Shohei Ohtani was already having a tremendous season on the mound when he added a brand-new weapon to his arsenal: It's a sinker, and it's a good one. Ohtani's sinker has the same upper-90s velocity as his four-seamer, but with a very different movement profile. His four-seamer comes straight at the hitter, while his sinker fades down and to the arm side. When you add the sinker to his other five pitches -- the four-seamer, plus a splitter, slider, cutter and curveball -- Ohtani might be getting even better as he looks to win back-to-back AL MVP Awards. |
