Plus: 10 sluggers overdue for a 3-HR game
A player hitting three home runs in a game is a remarkable feat. It's also both relatively rare and fairly fluky, not unlike hitting for the cycle or throwing a no-hitter.
So far this season, there have been four such games, by Adolis García, Paul Goldschmidt, Jordan Diaz and Trayce Thompson. Among the 14 three-homer performances last year, you might recall it was done by stars like Yordan Alvarez, Bo Bichette, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Anthony Rizzo, as well as lesser-knowns like Isaac Paredes, Michael Perez, Jack Suwinski and Lane Thomas.
So while you might think most of the game's best current sluggers would have pulled off a three-homer game, in fact, a number of big names have not. Here are the 10 active players with the most multi-dinger games who have not hit three long balls in a contest. | |
| What could be more frustrating for an outfielder than getting a glove on a ball only for it to make it over the fence for a home run? For Daulton Varsho, it happened on back-to-back homers for the Twins. | | |
| Cardinals Minor Leaguer Luken Baker got jammed on an inside sinker and it sawed off his bat ... but the ball still traveled 412 feet for an unreal home run. | | |
| The D-backs would be in the postseason if the season ended today, and there is plenty of evidence that their surprising start is no fluke. | | |
| Yesterday's top play by Adolis García was impressive for multiple reasons. First he got to the ball, then he managed to make a snow cone grab and finally he somehow held on to the ball while hitting the wall. | | |
| HBO's "Succession" airs its series finale tonight, and one theory about how things will play out revolves around a play from the 1920 World Series. | | |
| Who are the four Braves players to hit at least 30 homers and steal at least 30 bases in the same season? | |
