What is going on?
Poll after poll shows that the American people understand that our country is moving in the wrong direction. Donald Trump, with his lies, kleptocracy, narcissism, wars and contempt for the Constitution is now extremely unpopular.
He should be.
The bad news is that as unpopular as Donald Trump is, the Democratic Party in Congress is even more unpopular than that.
How did this happen?
Where do we go from here?
People all across the country in so-called Blue States, Red States and Purple States are hurting. Every day, working families are struggling to put food on the table, pay for healthcare, educate their kids or even fill up their gas tanks.
Meanwhile, the billionaire class has never ever had it so good with the top 1% owning more wealth than the bottom 93% and one man, Mr. Musk, owning more wealth than the bottom 53% of U.S. households.
At the same time, people see a corrupt campaign finance system which allows billionaires in both parties to buy elections and become disillusioned, wondering if anyone is looking out for them.
NOW is the time to change that.
NOW is the time to turn our country around.
NOW is the time to end status quo establishment politics and policies which tinker around the edges.
And the only way that will happen is if everyone -- not just me, us -- decide NOW is the time to elect progressive candidates who have the courage to stand up to the oligarchs and fight for an economy and government that works for ALL not just a few.
The good news is that we have won a number of very important victories recently.
Several weeks ago, Brian Poindexter, an ironworker and union leader, won a landslide victory in a Democratic congressional primary over establishment candidates in Ohio’s 7th Congressional District. The establishment candidate for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Maine, Governor Janet Mills, dropped out of the race after polls showed she was far behind the progressive candidate, Graham Platner.
Zohran Mamdani took on the political establishment and won in New York City. Abdul El-Sayed is leading in the polls in Michigan's U.S. Senate race. And on March 28th, over 8 million Americans came out for No Kings rallies in every state across the country. That was the largest day of demonstrations in the history of the United States, as people protested the authoritarianism, oligarchy and kleptocracy of the Trump administration.
But we must keep going.
Today, I want to ask you to make a contribution to four candidates who do have the guts to do what needs to be done.
Analilia Mejia began her campaign for Congress in New Jersey with virtually no name recognition. Yet, she defeated a former Congressman and a former Lieutenant Governor to win the Democratic primary. Now she has a general election coming up and once again needs our help.
Dr. Adam Hamawy has saved lives with great courage and honor - he did it as a 9/11 first responder, as a combat trauma surgeon in Iraq, as a volunteer in hospitals under bombardment in Gaza, and in emergency rooms in New Jersey. Now he is running for Congress where he is prepared to fight for real campaign finance reform to stop billionaires from buying elections, and will not waste billions of taxpayer dollars on endless and illegal wars.
Randy Villegas is an educator and small business owner from a working class family who understands the struggles that so many millions of Americans are facing everyday. He is running for Congress in California where early voting has already started and he needs our help.
While on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, Jane Kim helped San Francisco become one of the first cities to make community college tuition free, negotiated record levels of affordable housing from major developers, and won California’s first $15 minimum wage ordinance. Today she is running for the state's Insurance Commissioner where she will stand up to powerful corporate interests.

Let me conclude by saying this. It is very easy to feel despair and helplessness in the midst of Trump’s pathological lying, his wars, his authoritarianism, his narcissism and his contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law. But that is exactly what we do not have the luxury of doing. For the sake of our kids and future generations we must fight back.
Thanks for all you do. Keep the faith. Let’s go forward together.
In Solidarity,
Bernie Sanders
