There's a quiet kind of love in fixing something instead of giving up on it. The patience to take a thing apart, find what went wrong, and put it back together better than before.
A lot of dads know that love. Maybe you remember one bent over a stubborn old sewing machine, easing in a new part, coaxing the tension back into balance, then listening for that steady hum that meant it was working again. He didn't do it for thanks. He did it because the machine mattered, and the people who used it mattered more.
That's what fathers do. They keep the important things running. They mend what's worn. They believe almost anything can be made whole again with a little patience.
So today, we're simply saying thank you, to the dads, granddads, stepdads, and father figures who taught us that some things are always worth repairing.
Happy Father's Day. We hope today hums along just right.
