Abdul El-Sayed

In this unprecedented moment in American history we, as progressives, are engaged in many struggles.

Holly -

In this unprecedented moment in American history we, as progressives, are engaged in many struggles.

Not only are we trying to defend and improve democracy against those who want to move us toward authoritarianism; we're trying to create an economy that works for all of us and not just billionaires; we're trying to create a public health care system that guarantees health care to all; we're trying to stop U.S. weapons going to the extremist Netanyahu government and end a genocide in Gaza; and there is the not-so-small matter of trying to save our planet from the ravages of climate change so it is habitable for our children and our grandchildren.

And in almost all of these fights, we are not only taking on the full weight of the Republican Party in this country -- but we are also, often, taking on much of the Democratic Party establishment as well.

So I can understand why many of you in the last week are feeling anxious, angry, and upset -- and you are not alone. Millions of others feel the same way.

But in the midst of our many struggles, we cannot simply remain on the defensive. The answer to all of this is not simply to bury our heads in the sand or wallow in despair.

It is to continue fighting back as we did New York City where we won three House seats last month, in Colorado where we elected Melat Kiros in a race against a long-time Democratic incumbent representative, as well as many other House victories this year in New Jersey, Montana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, California and more.

And today, one of the most important places we can continue that fight is the Democratic primary for United States Senate happening in Michigan between progressive Abdul El-Sayed and establishment Democrat Haley Stevens.

In Michigan, Abdul's rise to first place in the polls has panicked the Democratic establishment and forced them to double down on the only thing they are capable of doing: spend obscene amounts of billionaire money on an establishment candidate and level personal attacks against a progressive.

$40 million -- an absurd amount of money in a Democratic primary in one state -- being spent against Abdul. Almost three-quarters of that amount was committed by AIPAC alone.

And what is Abdul's great "crime" that has united the entire Democratic Party establishment and corporate America against him?

His "crime" is that he will not vote for another nickel of U.S. taxpayers dollars to support the extremist Netanyahu government which has starved the children of Gaza and committed genocide there.

His "crime" is that he is a physician who understands that our current health care system is broken and wildly expensive. He understands that health care is a human right, which is why he supports Medicare for All.

His "crime" is that he understands that we have a corrupt campaign finance system which allows billionaires and Super PACs to buy and sell politicians and will fight not only to end Citizens United but to get Super PACs out of elections.

His "crime" is that he understands that too many workers in America are earning starvation wages. He will fight to raise the minimum wage to a living wage, make it easier for workers to join unions and build the millions of low income and affordable housing units this country desperately needs.

Truly terrible stuff...

Sisters and brothers: What this election is about is not only bringing a strong progressive, Abdul El-Sayed, into the United States Senate -- but showing the country that a working class agenda can win not only in New York, California and Colorado -- but can win in Michigan and in any state in the country.

So today -- with Abdul's election just three weeks away -- I am asking you for your financial support. For Abdul - but not just for him: for the entire progressive movement in this country and for our kids and future generations.

Please contribute $27 or whatever you can afford directly to Abdul El-Sayed's campaign for United States Senate in Michigan. This is a vitally important race and he needs your help.
