Daunting

I am writing to ask for your support for Angie Nixon, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Florida.

Holly -

I am writing to ask for your support for Angie Nixon, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Florida.

As you’re aware, the winds of political revolution are blowing strong across the country.

Over the last year Progressives have won upset victories in New York City, Arizona, Washington, DC, Seattle, Washington, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Montana, Colorado, California, Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota. Almost always outspent, Progressives have relied on strong, highly motivated grassroots movements that propelled them to victory.

And as extraordinary as many of these victories have been, an election occurred in Florida last week that was even more amazing.

State Representative Angie Nixon, facing a candidate hand-picked and funded by the Democratic establishment and outspent by more than 16 to 1, won the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate in Florida in a landslide.

Angie is proof that organized people can take on organized money — and win.

Angie Nixon is a union organizer, a 2016 Bernie staffer, a Black woman, and a mother of five. She understands, as I do, that healthcare is a human right, that no one working full time should live in poverty, and that billionaires must finally pay their fair share of taxes. She has been a champion for canceling medical debt, expanding childcare, guaranteeing paid family leave, and building an economy that works for the many, not the few.

Representative Nixon’s decades of experience as an organizer built a powerful campaign — a rainbow coalition of labor and community groups. She outperformed her opponent with Black voters, voters under 35, voters without a college degree, and in Florida's most rural counties — demographics the Democratic Party failed to galvanize in 2024. She won in every one of Florida's major cities, including Miami-Dade, where Republicans have steadily gained ground and which flipped red for the first time in decades in 2024.

They say Florida is a red state. I'm not sure that's true. Angie's campaign makes clear that working class voters, no matter what state they are in, are prepared to support candidates who will take on the greed of the billionaire class and fight for them. In Florida, and across the country, the American people are done with status quo politics and status quo policies. They want change, real change, and that’s what Angie’s campaign is all about.

Angie is running against Senator Ashley Moody, a right-wing Trump supporter. Moody supported Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” which will throw hundreds of thousands of Floridians off their health care. Moody has voted against every effort to block U.S. weapons from going to the extremist Netanyahu government and end a genocide in Gaza. And Moody already has the support of an AI Super PAC that immediately spent $2.5 million to support her campaign the day after Angie won the Democratic primary.

Ashley Moody will have the support of Donald Trump, the entire Republican Party establishment and much of the financial establishment of this country. They will do, say, and spend anything they have to in order to keep a strong progressive like Angie Nixon out of the United States Senate. And they'll be doing it in a state that has grown increasingly Republican over the last several elections.

If that sounds daunting, it is.

But I am reminded of the quote from Nelson Mandela, one of the great liberation leaders in modern history who reminded us: “It always seems impossible until it is done.”

That is why I am, once again, asking for your financial support. Because if Angie Nixon has the resources she needs to run a strong grassroots campaign that brings together millions of Floridians - Black, White, Latino, men and women, gay and straight, native born or immigrant - to stand together for economic, social, racial, and environmental justice then it may just be she can shock the political establishment of this country and win on November 3.

But she cannot do it alone. She needs all of us.

Can you please contribute $27 or whatever you can afford directly to Angie Nixon's campaign for United States Senate in Florida? It is hard to believe, but early voting starts soon and she can use your support today. Thank you.
